CWU Japanese Garden

By Ellensburg Lodging | No Comments

Are you a fan of Asian culture and architecture? Then on your next visit to our Ellensburg hotel, be sure to make time for a visit to the Central Washington University campus. It is here that you’ll find the CWU Japanese Garden.

This garden, which is open to the public throughout the year, is a place where the natural beauty of Washington is brought together with the aesthetic traditions of Japan. Here you will find old fashioned Japanese buildings, lanterns, statuary, and a rock garden, all of which is brought together with a beautiful array of plantlife. The garden even boasts a selection of cherry trees donated to the University by the Japanese Consulate General. It’s a fine diversion for anyone interested in the culture of our neighbors across the ocean!

Wild Horse Wind Farm

By Ellensburg Lodging | No Comments

Ever stop to wonder what, exactly, is keeping your lights burning? If you’re staying at our Ellensburg hotel, you can find your answer in the wind and sky. This is thanks to the Wild Horse Wind Farm, which is not only a large provider of electricity to the area but also a true pioneer of the cause of clean, renewable energy.

Located atop Whiskey Dick Mountain, Wild Horse takes advantage of the natural abundance of wind and sun to be the first combined wind and solar facility in the US. It is also the first wind farm to offer a visitors’ center, which gives a stunning panoramic view of not only the farm but Mount Rainier, Mount Adams, Mount Hood and the Columbia River basin as well. Free tours are offered twice a day, at 10 am and 2 pm, between the months of April and November, giving visitors a chance to get up close to the inner workings of the towering turbines. If you’re enthusiastic about green energy or large wonders of machinery, then this is a can’t-miss opportunity!

Thorp Mil

By Ellensburg Lodging | No Comments

There was a time when most every small community in our nation was built up around the local mill. Most such mills died out in the wake of the second world war, and with the rise of the modern era there have been precious few of these historical relics left. One of these mills, a true national treasure, exists within reach of our own Ellensburg hotel and RV park. This is the Thorp Mill.

The Thorp Mill stands as an embodiment of that hearty pioneer ideal that makes our nation great. Preserved now by the Thorp Mill Town Historical Society, it serves as a curiosity for industrial historians all over the United States. Here you can see the fully restored mill, a portable saw mill exhibit, and a rare example of early electricity generation. Drop on by and get a valuable look at old fashioned American workmanship!

It is here that the Historical Society has collected nearly 9,000 objects for your viewing pleasure, giving you a taste of Native America, World War II, and even prehistory. Classic cars, old time photographs, tools, toys, and dinosaur bones, it’s all here and it’s all part of Kittitas County! Whatever era you may be interested in, this is the museum to visit!

Clymer Museum & Gallery

By Ellensburg Lodging | No Comments

Long before we set up our Ellensburg lodging in this historic town, Ellensburg was the home of renowned artist John F. Clymer. Born here in 1907, this man is well known for his oil paintings of cowboy life, Native America, and the beautiful landscapes of the Pacific Northwest. Much of his work can be seen on the covers of “Field and Stream” and “The Saturday Evening Post”, or you can come down to his birthplace yourself and get the full scope of his career at the Clymer Museum & Gallery.

This museum features a year-round exhibit of Clymer original works, along with collections from other local artists. It also plays an active part in the local art scene, providing regular classes, workshops, guest lectures from visiting artists, and a number of regular events throughout the year. If you’re a fan of the art world, particularly the distinct flavor of western painters, this is a destination that you cannot miss.

Wild Goose Casino

By Ellensburg Lodging | No Comments

For the more daring patrons of our Ellensburg lodging, we recommend the Wild Goose Casino down on 1600 N Currier Street. Featuring good food, a friendly staff, a full sports bar, and solid poker action, it’s a great place to put your money to work away from the pomp and noise of Vegas.

Though Ellensburg may not be the first destination that comes to mind when you think of gambling, we think you’ll agree that Wild Goose offers an easy, personable hang-out atmosphere that you don’t find in the big places. You’ll find that your money goes a long way here, and it might even come back to you if you have a good enough poker face. If you’re tired of neon castles that try to dazzle you out of your funds with glitz and glamor, give Wild Goose Casino a try.
